Does the relocation of poor people from Manila to Laguna make their lives easier?

6 years ago, after Typhoon Ondoy pass the Philippines, many people lost their house and most of it were the ones who lives in slums. It leaves so many people homeless and can't afford a house.

ABS-CBN Foundation and other companies made a project that will give a place where this affected families can live, they called it "BAYANIJUAN". It is located in Calauan, Laguna. They build identical houses, with equal rights, and they can't interfere with other people's business, even it gives disturbance to them. Does this project really help poor people to have a easier life than living in slums?

In my opinion, it gives them an easier life, but it hinders them to earn as much for a living, because first of all, they are relocated in a place where there are no jobs that can support their needs. They are live in provinces, and their houses are far from the city and even it is near the city, the money that they will earn can't support them, where can they find a job that can support the needs of their family if they are far from the city.

We visited "BAYANIJUAN" last October, 2015. The community has much population, there are so many people who are living there, but when we interviewed some of them, there are families that wanted to go back to Manila because they are having problems in finding a job, but some of them are satisfied. I met a mother that goes to Alabang everyday to work to be able to earn money for a living, she's having a difficulty with transportation, because almost all her salary is being used in transportation.

We can say that it helped them to have a place to stay, but it doesn't help them to find a job to supply their own basic needs.

  1. I disagree , in my opinion mas okay na ang tumira sa malinis at maayos na bahay kesa sa tabi ng ilog. Let's accept the fact na minsan sila ang nagiging suliranin sa atin dahil first of all hindi dapat sila nakatira doon.

  2. Nope living beside a dirty environment can be a cause of deceases. They are less fortunate they will have a hard time earning money for their illnesses. So relocating them will make their lives easier

  3. They live in a community wherein jobs are hard to find. It is quite the same as living beside a river.

  4. I disagree, because relocating them will make their lives much easier the rent of the houses there is much lower than in the city. and they are much more safer there because there are far from floods. they just only need to sacrifice for their family, some of the family who live in the relocation site are much happier than before because they are insured that they will have houses there to live and much more safer.

  5. I also disagree with what you have said. Human beings have survive for many years, and our ancestors have many ways on how they have survived through those years. One of the techniques or should i say characteristics that they possess is being a nomad, and that is what I can see from the people in Calauan. If our ancestors have survive using that method, then why can't we try it in our generation.

  6. No because i think living in a polluted area can make a person more sick. Relocating them is a good way on making their lives easy because they will be in a safe place with no garbage and pollution and it will be best for their health
